I would wait a few months if I were you my dear MK.
Israel is one of the top five (5) most dangerous destinations of our planet.
At least that's what Forbes publications state in a recent (2007-2008) poll.
There is absolutely no one that can guarantee to you a safe stay.
I am not talking of course of those dangers that exist anywhere in the world.
I am talking of the ones that are generated in Israel and maintained for over our last fifty years.
In any case, I wish you good luck on your decision.
Greetings

You will not have any major problems. You may expirience a bit more stringent security check but this is unlikely. besides this you won't have any problem. If you can easily obtain a document proving that your mother is Jewish it might help. But like I said you will not have any major problems at all. Relax and come visit us. You will see that Israel is beautiful country and regardless of all our problems for tourists it is one of the most magic places on earth. You will not regret your trip. Oh, as an American you don't need visa to enter Israel

You're not going to be the first guy in Israel with a muslim name I can assure you that. As long as you don't cause any trouble you shouldn't have a problem and if your mother is Jewish then you're Jewish and you can even get a citizenship.

you will be very welcome in israel.
with a usa passport you will not need a visa.
plus many israeli's have muslim sounding family names
under the jewish law, you are jewish if your mother is jewish.
i am sure you will love this great country
have fun

Why should you have a problem? As long as you have a valid US Passport, and a visa (not sure about Israel's laws in obtaining one), you won't have a problem at all.

One thing is fer sure: You won't have no troubles not visiting israel.

you'd be welcome as any other tourist.
you'll get used to the security checks at airports ,malls, restaurants and basically every public place.it's a daily routine for us israelis.
enjoy your stay :)

I agree with you. It worth thinking. A Muslim name in the States is a problem. Imagine how it is in Israel?
