What percentage of Israelis speak English?

If I had to guess, 75-80% have English good enough to hold great conversations with me. Especially if they are secularized Israelis.

I checked the website of the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics. They don't publish such figures, they only distinguish between Arabs, Jews and others.



The following website suggests it to be almost 85%

It is referring to http://www.ethnologue.com/show_country.asp?name=IL as its source of information but when you examine it you can not find the supporting information



I see the figure suggested by Wikipedia high too if compared to the US (95%) or UK 97% or Australia 97% where English is the mother tongue.

A VERY large percentage of Israelis have made Aliyah from the US and Canada. The number is MUCH higher than 10%. Closer to 90. Almost everyone there knows enough English to have a conversation. Much of their television is broadcast in English with subtitles.

Compared to the European countries such as mine, which is Sweden with a percentage at around 90% I believe Israel is in the region of 10%.

Given that Israel is a little wanna be America, I would guess that it's about 50%.
